Bridge is a great mind game. It is always different, challenges a lot of different capabilities and it is a social game too. In the late seventies I learned it at school and hardly played any other games the rest of my life. As time passed I became better and even reached the Dutch national team. As a member of the Dutch selection group we were setting up the use of tools for our weekly training. In 2022 I met Bob Richardson. He had written two bridge programs: DDS and Lead Captain. The first is a double dummy solver and the second uses double dummy analyses to examine leads and bidding decisions. We wanted some additional functionality and since we are both computer programmers and bridge players we had a good click. But the old sailor was already walking around for 80 years and wanted his two kids to be continued.
So here we are. We have developed Bridge Compass. This is the replacement of Lead Captain. It has additional functionality for generating practice deals, has a simple but intuitive Double Dummy player and the usability is much better. It is a Windows application for now. Our idea was to rebuild the Windows versions first and then make them suitable for Apple. And a web version and a mobile app. I now doubt if we are going to realise it all, but we do have a very good bridge analysing program.
